Team building activities promote communication and support between staff, build memories with your team, teach patience and adaptability, encourage creativity, and may even invite some friendly competition throughout the workplace. The Community Learning Center in Kendallville, IN is happy to help build your team!
For the crafty team
Enjoy a session (or two) in The Pottery at the CLC with one of our talented instructors. Experience handbuilding or try out wheel throwing. Finished pieces can be picked up at the studio on a later date. One 2-hour session costs $300 total for 10-15 participants. Less than 10 participants cost $35 per person. This fee includes clay. Glazing and firing in the kiln will be done for you by the instructor. Two 2-hour sessions, split between 2 days, cost $500 for 10-15 participants and include clay and glaze. Less than 10 participants cost $50 per person.

Private Pottery Events are such a fun time to unwind, connect, and make memories with your team. Pottery encourages patience, adaptability, and creativity; even for beginners! Share stories or even host a meeting while each team member creates something unique.
Contact our Studio Manager, Teagan Koble, to schedule a 1 or 2-night private event in The Pottery by emailing clctkoble@gmail.com.

For the foodie team
Starting at only $20 per person, challenge your team to a kitchen competition! The Community Learning Center provides all of the professional utensils, ingredients, and tools in our commercial kitchen to host the perfect food challenge. The event will be guided by one of our culinary instructors to teach food safety and give a tour of the kitchen. Choose from our food challenge examples or create your own. Soup Cook-Off
How it works: Teams create their own soup recipe using a selection of base ingredients from our pantry and surprise add-ins unique to each team. Present to the judges to crown a winner, then enjoy the soup creations in a nice sit-down lunch or dinner setting.
Team-building benefits: Encourages communication, creativity, and time management as teams balance flavors and presentation.
Fun Twist: The bosses are the judges!
Cupcake Decorating Contest
How it works: Teams decorate baked goods with a theme (holiday, company values, movie, etc). Vote on a winner or just enjoy the decorating experience.
Team-building benefit: Great for groups who want something lighthearted and artistic.
Fun twist: Rotate teams midway so each group finishes another’s creation.
“Around the World” Potluck Challenge
How it works: Each team chooses a country and creates a dish inspired by that cuisine. Teams would use the CLC Commercial Kitchen and guidance from one of our culinary instructors to prepare their dish. Present to the judges to crown a winner, then enjoy the cultural creations during a nice sit-down lunch or dinner setting.
Team-building benefit: Encourages cultural awareness and storytelling.
Fun twist: Present dishes with a short “travel story” or presentation.
For the active team
Pickleball has proven to be the fastest-growing sport and is great for active adults looking for friendly competition. Starting at $20 per person for groups of 8-12, compete in a 1-hour Round-Robin style tournament. Balls, paddles, nets, a score-keeper, and snacks are provided by the CLC. Here’s how it works: (1) Establish partners to make teams. (2) Organize the matchups on our 3 courts. (3) Play games first to 11 points. (4) Rotate opponents and courts. (5) Establish a winning team based on the most accrued points!
Not sure how to play pickleball? Group lessons are available at $20 per person. A pickleball Tournament or even group lessons can build communication and team morale. Build teams based on departments to work on communication, or mix-and-match departments to make a team and build connections between other colleagues. Pickleball is easy for beginners and fun for seasoned players. This healthy activity is a great way to break up routine desk work. To schedule a pickleball tournament or group lesson, contact the Community Learning Center at kendallvilleclc@gmail.com.
